Academy of Dance Arts embraces the joy of dance. Their dancers learn discipline and technique while having fun in a supportive, encouraging environment focused on teamwork rather than competition. The owner wanted a new visual identity that could express the unique blend of joy and excellence that students experience at her dance studio while appealing more specifically to parents with young children.

Design Process

The Graham technique is an integral part of the dance studio owner’s ethos and became a central source of inspiration for the mark. The rotational movement and parts-to-whole composition of the star connect to the Graham technique’s focus on spiral movements that start small and open up into large, grand gestures.

The new identity needed to be designed with flexibility so that it could accommodate the more shorthand names used for the dance studio’s website URL and social media. It was also important to have a color palette and overall tone that could be gender inclusive.
